This half-day tour combines three of Scotland’s best assets; history, scenery and whisky! Experience Edinburgh’s Old Town, travel through the Royal park and explore the hidden enclave of Duddingston Village. Then travel the short distance out of town to ‘Edinburgh’s Distillery’ at Glenkinchie Distillery for a distillery tour and tasting.

Each one of our private tours is conducted in our premium Mercedes Benz minivans, ensuring your comfort as we venture along the small cobbled streets around Edinburgh and narrow back roads.

Your knowledgable kilt-wearing driver & guide will tell you the stories and show you the sights on this tour. We offer flexibility and your time inside and outside the vehicle is up to you.

KEY SIGHTS ON THIS TOUR…

Edinburgh Old Town

Explore the medieval old town of Edinburgh, spanning from Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal Mile to Holyrood Palace at the bottom. A walking or driven tour through 800 years of history learning the traditions and stories of the medieval city and its influence on the modern world.

We’ll see famous sites in the old town including The Grassmarket, Victoria Street, St Giles Cathedral, John Knox House and Bakehouse Close as featured in Outlander. At the bottom of the mile see Queen Mary’s Wash house, The Scottish Parliament and the Canongate Kirk.

Duddingston Village

The once separate Duddingston village on the perimeter of the Royal park is a hidden enclave of the city best known by the locals. Visit Duddingston Church and hear about its impact on the world, explore the narrow cobbled streets and visit Scotland’s oldest pub, the Sheep Heid Inn, established (established 1360).

Glenkinchie Distillery

We’ll then travel the short journey east out of Edinburgh and into the rural agricultural East Lothian region to visit Glenkinchie Distillery. Glenkinchie is nestled into the glen of the Kinchie Burn near the picturesque village of Pencaitland. Given its proximity to Edinburgh, it is known as ‘The Edinburgh Malt’. Despite its proximity to the capital city it is little known on the international Whisky map because of its size, ability to compete with larger and more established distilleries on the international market and various periods of inactivity.

The distillery is a major contributor to the Johnnie Walker blend and in 2020 the visitor experience has been  re-imagined to be a taste-led exploration through whisky distilling. Glenkinchie is now ‘The Lowland Home of Johnnie Walker’ and offers visitors a world class visitor centre and tour, sampling both Glenkinchie’s own single malts and the Johnnie Walker blends it contributes too.

Please note that the Glenkinchie Flavour Journey Tour lasts around 1.5 hours and is included in the price for all guests

Although our trip was quite short we packed so much into the time we had. We will definitely do another tour on our next trip to Edinburgh.
