The Braemar Gathering has been a highlight of the sporting calendar since 1832. The games are the most prominent and well-attended Highland games, drawing vast crowds from all over the globe, not least because it is often attended by members of the Royal Household including her majesty The Queen.

Housed in The Duke of Rothesay Highland Games Pavilion, the centre provides visitors with a unique insight into the annual games and also life in the community around Braemar. The building is a replica of Ballater train station that was once used by Queen Victoria.

The centre is named in honour of Prince Charles who has been a keen supporter of the project through the Prince’s Foundation and was unveiled by HM The Queen in September 2018.

The Pavilion’s exhibition tells the story of Highland games and gatherings throughout the ages, celebrating the deep-rooted cultural and sporting traditions of Scotland. Discover how the Gathering’s continuing link with the Royal Family began with Queen Victoria, learn about Highland games activities such as piping, dancing and heavy events, and see original Highlander uniforms, complete with kilts!

The Pavilion cafe is furnished with the Duke of Rothesay tartan and offers light refreshments, lunch and afternoon tea with a focus on local producers from Aberdeenshire and Scotland.
