Our service
One of our most famous (and most exported) products, the ‘water of life’ is synonymous with Scotland. There are over 20 million casks in bonded warehouses maturing, that’s 4 casks for every member of the Scottish population!
The Lowland whisky region has some of the best venues in Scotland, and we’ll get to try out their products on this whisky day trip from Edinburgh! We’ll see some stunning scenery along the way and we’ll pass by historic sites. At the distilleries we visit, we’ll do at least one distillery tour and tastings at the others.
Of course the most important part of any whisky tour is your ‘designated driver’ to drive you from distillery to distillery and tell you about some of the sights and stories on the road.
Each one of our private tours is conducted in our premium Mercedes minivans, ensuring your comfort as we venture along the small cobbled streets around Edinburgh and narrow back roads of the highlands.
Your knowledgable kilt-wearing private tour guide will tell you the stories and show you the sights on this tour. We offer flexibility and your time inside and outside the vehicle is up to you.
RECOMMENDED SIGHTS ON THIS TOUR …
Lindores Abbey Distillery
The original excise license for Lindores dates back to 1494, when King James IV gave the Benedictine monks at the abbey the order to make ‘Aqua Vitae’ out of 8 bolls of malt. Production ended during the reformation, but after a pause of some 500 years, Lindores is again making whisky. As the ‘spiritual home of Scotch Whisky’ some say it’s a pilgrimage!
Glenturret Distillery
Near Crieff, the Glenturret distillery was established in 1775. Among Scotland’s last remaining hand-operated mash tuns, the distillery uses a wooden rouser to mash the whisky, a process called hand mash, which is done using water sourced from nearby Loch Turret. The distillery is steeped in tradition and is the longest continually operating distillery in Scotland.
Deanston Distillery
Deanston’s heritage is in fact derived from a very different industry than that of Deanston malt. Cotton milling was a profitable and flourishing industry in Scotland. There was such a large workforce at the mill on the banks of the Teith that a separate town was built. Despite a decline in cotton production, Deanston’s mill closed in 1965, but was reborn as a distillery in 1974.
Along the way
During our journey, you will see many historic places that your guide will introduce and tell you more about. These include The Forth Bridges, Falkland Village and Palace, Doune Castle, Stirling Castle and The Kelpies.
