RECOMMENDED SIGHTS ON THIS TOUR …
Loch Lomond’s Serene Beauty
We journey to Loch Lomond, the UK’s largest freshwater loch (lake). A stop on the ‘Bonnie Banks’ of Loch Lomond at the picturesque village of Luss offers panoramic views across the tranquil waters.
Kilchurn Castle
Standing proudly at the head of Loch Awe, Kilchurn Castle is a vision of medieval grandeur. Its imposing curtain walls and dramatic mountain backdrop make it one of Scotland’s most photographed castles. We’ll pause at a scenic viewpoint to admire this fortress.
Inveraray Castle
On the shores of Loch Fyne, Inveraray Castle, a stunning example of Gothic Revival architecture, awaits. Home to the Dukes of Argyll and Chief of Clan Campbell, the castle is steeped in history and legend. Explore its opulent rooms, preserved as they were for Queen Victoria’s 1900 visit, and learn about the Clan Campbell’s significant role in Scotland’s past, including tales of fire, massacre, and resilience. Notably, Inveraray Castle served as “Duneagle Castle” in a Downton Abbey TV Christmas special.
Oban
We arrive in Oban, the “Seafood Capital of Scotland,” a vibrant coastal town with a rich maritime heritage. Witness the bustling harbour, home to a long-standing fishing fleet and the departure point for ferries to the Hebridean Islands. Enjoy free time to explore this charming town. We’ll also visit McCaig’s Tower, an architectural oddity in the town.
Coastal Vistas and Castle Stalker
Our journey continues north along the scenic Loch Linnhe coastline, crossing the remarkable Connel Bridge, originally a railway bridge converted to road use in 1914. We’ll pause for a photo opportunity at the iconic Castle Stalker, before venturing along Loch Linnhe and the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe.
Glencoe
Deep in the Western Highlands, Glencoe unveils some of Scotland’s most spectacular mountain scenery. Towering peaks and rugged ridges dominate the landscape, reaching heights over 3,000 feet. Here, we’ll reflect on the tragic Massacre of Glencoe in 1692, when Clan Campbell soldiers turned on their MacDonald hosts.
Rannoch Moor
We traverse the vast and remote Rannoch Moor, a protected area of exceptional natural beauty. Along the way, we’ll stop at scenic viewpoints to capture the raw, untamed landscape and its diverse flora and fauna.
The Trossachs
Our journey concludes with a stop in The Trossachs, a region of picturesque lochs, towering mountains, and charming whitewashed villages, home to the legendary Rob Roy MacGregor. We’ll pause at a lochside location for refreshments and a moment of tranquility.
