Take a private tour from Glasgow to Stirling and into a region of Scotland that offers a wealth of historic places, dramatic landscapes and easy road connections. Experience a personal tour of Stirling Castle, the historic Royal Seat within the old Capital City of Scotland. From Stirling, travel to the natural beauty of Scotland’s first national park for a private tour around Loch Lomond.

On the way back towards Glasgow, visit Dumbarton Castle standing at the foot of Dumbarton rock and see where Mary Queen of Scots left for France.

Each one of our private tours is conducted in our premium Mercedes minivans, ensuring your comfort as we venture along the small cobbled streets around Edinburgh and narrow back roads of the highlands.

Your knowledgable kilt-wearing private tour guide will tell you the stories and show you the sights on this tour. We offer flexibility and your time inside and outside the vehicle is up to you.

RECOMMENDED SIGHTS ON THIS TOUR …
Stirling Castle

As we arrive at Stirling we see Stirling Castle sitting on an imposing volcanic plug overlooking the Carse Of Stirling. Driving up the cobbled streets to the castle we will understand why the castle and the town held such importance in historic Scotland. The views from the castle ramparts across the Carse of Stirling towards the Wallace Monument are outstanding.

Your guide will conduct a full guided tour of Stirling Castle, learning about its place in history and the people who lived here. More so than any other castle in Scotland you can really feel what it was like to live and work here in the 16th century. You’ll visit the Great Hall, Royal Apartments and service areas of the castle.

Climbing onto ‘The Wall Walk’ the views across the Carse of Stirling towards the Wallace Monument and Ochil hills are amazing. On a clear day you can see for 40 miles around.

David Stirling Memorial

David Stirling was the father of the Special Air Service (SAS) that was formed as an elite tactical unit during World War II. On a good day the memorial affords stunning views west over the Trossachs towards Loch Lomond.

Doune Castle

Doune Castle today is Doune as it was when rebuilt by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, in the late 14th century and although it’s been a ruin since the 18th century, the castle remains largely intact. As a result a trip to Doune Castle shows you what a medieval castle was really like.

Doune has been used several times as a film set. It has featured twice in films based on Scott’s ‘Ivanhoe’ and more recently has been used as as Winterfell in ‘Game of Thrones’ Castle and in Outlander as the location of Castle Leoch. By far its most famous screen appearance was in ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ (1974) in which it featured, almost by accident, as Camelot.

The Trossachs

Known as ‘The Highlands in Miniature’ we’ll drive through this area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and stop for photo opportunities and a comfort stop (as required) in the highland village of Aberfoyle. The Trossachs is also ‘Rob Roy Country’ and we’ll tell the story of the famous highland rogue as we explore his region.

Loch Lomond

Take in the stunning views over the biggest freshwater loch (lake) in the UK, the centrepiece of Loch Lomond at The Trossachs National Park. We’ll call at the picturesque lochside town of Balmaha and take in the views, before having a late lunch at a quaint loch-side inn.

From Loch Lomond we take a quick detour to Luss on the western bank and take in the panoramic views over the Loch to Ben Lomond on the opposite bank. Standing on the pier gives you a 360 degree panoramic view of the area.
