Day 1 – Loch Awe, Glencoe and the Jacobite Steam Train

Leaving Edinburgh behind, we journey deep into the Highlands, following some of Scotland's most spectacular scenery. From the tranquil shores of Loch Awe to the dramatic landscapes around Bridge of Orchy and Tulla, the scenery becomes ever more breathtaking as we approach Fort William.

Loch Awe

Stretching for over 25 miles, Loch Awe is Scotland's longest freshwater loch and one of the country's most peaceful and beautiful landscapes. Surrounded by forests and mountains, the loch is rich in history and folklore, with picturesque views and hidden castle ruins creating countless opportunities for memorable photographs.

Tulla and the Black Mount

Travelling north through the Highlands, we enter the magnificent landscape of the Black Mount and Loch Tulla. This vast wilderness of mountains, moorland and mirror-like waters is one of Scotland's most iconic landscapes. Red deer are frequently spotted here, while the scenery has provided the backdrop for numerous films and television productions.

Fort William

Known as the Outdoor Capital of the UK, Fort William sits beneath the mighty Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain. Originally established around a military fort in the seventeenth century, the town today serves as the gateway to the west Highlands and offers a lively atmosphere with excellent restaurants and waterfront views.

The Jacobite Steam Train

This afternoon, step aboard the world-famous Jacobite Steam Train for a memorable round-trip journey to the west coast fishing port of Mallaig, enjoying some of Scotland's finest railway scenery.

Widely regarded as one of the world's greatest railway journeys, the Jacobite Steam Train carries passengers through dramatic Highland scenery to the colourful harbour town of Mallaig. Crossing the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, immortalised in the Harry Potter films, the route also passes beautiful lochs, mountains and remote villages inaccessible by road. After time to explore Mallaig, return to Fort William by your choice of rail or road for an overnight stay.

Returning to Fort William in the evening, you'll have time to relax and enjoy an overnight stay beneath Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis.

Day 2 - Loch Ness, Whisky and the Heart of Scotland

This morning we travel along the Great Glen to Fort Augustus, where Loch Ness stretches away between the surrounding mountains. Enjoy a relaxing cruise on Scotland's most famous loch before heading south through the Cairngorms National Park. A visit to one of Scotland's highest whisky distilleries provides a warming Highland welcome before we continue to the enchanting woodland trails of The Hermitage. Crossing the famous Firth of Forth, we conclude our Highland adventure back in Edinburgh.

Fort Augustus

Nestled at the southern tip of Loch Ness, Fort Augustus is a charming Highland village centred around the impressive Caledonian Canal locks. Originally built as a military fort after the Jacobite uprisings, today it offers a peaceful setting and spectacular views across Scotland's most famous loch.

Loch Ness Boat Cruise

Board a scenic cruise on the mysterious waters of Loch Ness. Surrounded by mountains and forests, the loch reaches depths of over 750 feet and contains more water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined. Keep your eyes peeled for the legendary Nessie while enjoying spectacular Highland scenery.

Dalwhinnie Distillery

Situated at over 1,000 feet above sea level, Dalwhinnie is one of Scotland's highest and coldest distilleries. Founded in 1897, it produces elegant Highland single malts renowned for their smooth, honeyed character. Enjoy a distillery experience and discover the craftsmanship behind one of Scotland's most celebrated whiskies.

The Hermitage

A short woodland walk through towering Douglas fir trees leads to Ossian's Hall and the spectacular Black Linn Falls. Created in the eighteenth century by the Dukes of Atholl, The Hermitage combines dramatic scenery with romantic architecture and remains one of Perthshire's most beautiful hidden gems.

Forth Bridges Viewpoint

Before returning to Edinburgh, we pause for magnificent views of the three Forth Bridges. Together they represent over 130 years of engineering achievement, with the iconic Victorian Forth Bridge recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the perfect final photograph to conclude your Highland journey.
