Kilchoman Distillery

Kilchoman Distillery is a small, independent distillery located on the west coast of the Isle of Islay. As a relative newcomer, Kilchoman was founded in 2005 and is the first new distillery to be built on Islay in over 125 years. Kilchoman is unique in that it is the only distillery in Scotland to carry out every step of the whisky-making process on-site, from growing barley to bottling. This “farm-to-bottle” approach allows Kilchoman to produce a truly authentic Islay single malt with a distinctive character.

Kilchoman’s whiskies are known for their intense peaty flavour, which is balanced by a sweetness and fruitiness. The distillery produces a range of expressions, including the core Machir Bay, the 100% Islay, and the Loch Gorm. Kilchoman also releases limited-edition bottlings, such as the Sanaig, which is matured in sherry casks.

Kilchoman is a popular destination for whisky enthusiasts, who can tour the distillery and learn about the whisky-making process. The distillery also has a visitor centre, where visitors can sample Kilchoman’s whiskies and purchase bottles to take home.

For those who have visited Islay before, this new entrant to the market offers a reason to return to the whisky isle.
