Torabhaig Distillery

Torabhaig Distillery is located on the shores of Loch Harport, surrounded by the rugged mountains of Skye. The distillery uses water from two local burns, Allt Gleann and Allt Nan Craobh, which are both known for their purity. Torabhaig also uses a heavily peated malt, which gives its whisky its signature smoky flavor.

It is the second ever licensed distillery on Skye and the first since Talisker was established in 1830. The distillery was founded in 2013 by Mossburn Distillers, a company that is also behind the Mossburn distillery in Speyside.

It produces a variety of whiskies, including the Allt Gleann, the Legacy Series, and the Distillery Reserve. Torabhaig whisky is known for its bold, peaty flavor and its long, smoky finish.

Torabhaig offers a variety of guided tour that include a tasting. The distillery also has a visitor centre where visitors can learn about the history of whisky making on Skye and the production process at Torabhaig.

There are three main whisky series produced by Torabhaig Distillery:

  • Allt Gleann: This is Torabhaig’s flagship whisky. It is a heavily peated single malt whisky that is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The Allt Gleann is known for its bold, smoky flavor and its long, lingering finish.
  • Legacy Series: This series of small-batch whiskies is dedicated to the people and places that have played a role in the history of Torabhaig Distillery. Each whisky in the series is unique and reflects the character of the region of the distillery.
  • Distillery Reserve: This whisky is a blend of different Torabhaig whiskies that have been matured in a variety of casks. The Distillery Reserve is known for its complex flavor and its smooth finish.

Torabhaig Distillery also produces a number of limited edition whiskies. These whiskies are often released to commemorate special occasions or to showcase different aspects of Torabhaig’s whisky-making process.

Torabhaig is a young distillery, but it has already made a name for itself for producing high-quality, peaty whiskies that are popular with both whisky enthusiasts and newcomers to the world of Scotch whisky.
