For any Sassenach, the Scottish landscape is more than just scenery—it’s an Outlander character in its own right, etched with the history and romance of the Fraser and MacKenzie clans. And now, thanks to the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, we have a stunning new location to add to our pilgrimage: The “Blood of My Blood” Bridge.

This isn’t just a picturesque stone arch; it’s the quiet, foundational setting where the whole Outlander saga truly begins.

A Fateful Highland Crossing

Deep in the heart of Highland Perthshire, tucked away near the charming village of Comrie, lies the atmospheric stone bridge that played host to a pivotal moment in the prequel. This is the sacred ground where Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie first cross paths, sparking the fated love story that would ultimately lead to the birth of our own Jamie Fraser.

The Setting: Imagine standing on this old, unassuming bridge. A clear Highland burn flows beneath, the air is still and silent, and you are completely surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Scottish hills. It is a moment frozen in time—a quiet meeting place, safe from the wagging tongues of Clan Leoch and the pressures of MacKenzie clan politics.

A Hidden Gem

Unlike the bustling locations of Castle Leoch or Lallybroch, this bridge is a true hidden gem. Its remoteness makes the experience all the more special, allowing you to connect with the landscape in a raw, untouched way, exactly as the characters in the 18th century would have experienced it.

The Spark of the Saga

The bridge itself symbolises the fateful moment when their destinies intertwine. Before this crossing, they are two individuals confined by the expectations of their time and family. After it, they are the foundation of the Fraser bloodline—a rebellious pair whose unwavering love will echo down through the generations, ultimately creating the world into which Jamie is born.

As Executive Producer Matthew B. Roberts noted, when scouting the location, he thought it was so perfect it must have been built for the show! But no—this bridge is an authentic piece of Scotland’s history, perfectly suited to carry the weight of the story.

Accessing the location safely and legally

We encourage visitors to access the land responsibly and ahere to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. This area is sometimes used as a firing range and there will be a red flag flying at the gate when this is happening. There is also sometimes a marshall there to ensure that visitors remain safe, but ultimately you are responsible for your own access.

Plan Your Own Journey Across the Bridge

For those eager to walk in the footsteps of Brian and Ellen, the bridge is located in the hills above Comrie, Perthshire. While it’s remotely situated, the fact that this piece of Outlander lore is a real-world location makes it an essential stop for dedicated fans.

Location: Near Comrie, Highland Perthshire.

Significance: The place where Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie’s love story begins.
